EEA is delighted to be part of the PLATFORM shift+ project supported by the European Commission’s Creative Europe fund. Following on from our earlier successful and inspiring European project, Platform 11+, we are now embarking on four years of exploration with ten other partners from nine countries, all recognised as national leaders in the field of theatre for young people and led by UK company Pilot Theatre in York.
This artistic network has been created to meet the new challenges of producing theatre for young people in the digital age. As partners, we have helped identify the urgent need to engage with digital technology in order to understand young audiences and theatre makers. Today’s young people are digital natives who move naturally between real and virtual worlds. For them, the arts must respond to this new reality in order to sustain and grow existing audiences and build new ones in the future. This project will enable EEA to portray accurately young people’s reality and inspire them to create their own responses as a unique live medium for modern times.
To achieve this, Platform Shift+ provides a major investment in the professionalisation of art makers on an international level. An extensive programme of interrelated activities and 40 productions will encourage transnational exchanges of artists and artistic creations and provide training in digital technology through practice and international Creative Forums. The project creates a platform to shift theatre for young Europeans today and secures theatre’s role in the Europe of tomorrow.
