The Only Way Is Ethics (TOWIE) wins Heritage Lottery Fund Support.
Emergency Exit Arts, In Partnership with Museum of London and Bishopsgate Institute has received £50,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for an exciting project, The Only Way Is Ethics developed with 18-25 year olds from across London. The project focuses on the heritage of democracy and social activism by exploring the ethics of protest, ethical choices including personal and political responsibilities and the ethics of museums and curating.
TOWIE will support young people to explore applied ethics as a form of historical enquiry into key London organisations and individuals who have fought for democracy and representation in their city. Drawing on the dynamic collections at Museum of London and Bishopsgate Institute and using public art as a vehicle for interpretation they will explore the process of historical research and the complex political and ethical issues entailed in the "writing" of history.
Throughout this project 40 young people will gain skills in archiving, oral history and interpretation as well as participating in workshops in media, ethics, outdoor arts, philosophy and leadership skills. They will be supported to put these new skills to good use in action groups, which will create public performances, exhibitions and symposiums that share their discoveries with the wider community.
Keep checking back for more on this project.
