In 2017 Southwark Council, Output Arts and Emergency Exit Arts worked together to make an annual celebration involving the communities living and working around the Blackfriars Mile.
We brought together hundreds of local people in the creation of an illuminated procession around local streets, inspired by the story of Old Father Thames, an ancient guardian of the river.
In local schools mysterious objects from the river's past appeared frozen in ice, which inspired the pupils to create beautiful lanterns based on the items discovered within. They also came together to create an animated film which was projected onto the buildings as the procession marched through the wintry streets of Blackfriars.
