The Triumph of Art

Event

Event details

Sat 26 July 2025 • 11:00am – 4:00pm

Emergency Exit Arts were commissioned by artist Jeremy Deller and National Gallery to work with Heart n Soul in designing a new giant for The Triumph of Art, a nationwide project for which Deller is Artistic Director.

The result of the commission is Quingo Starliquinn, a 5.5m tall drumming puppet with 4 different faces that also carries Heart n Soul DJs between it's drumming arms. Quingo was designed by Tony Mason and Heart n Soul's "Do Your Own Thing" artists, it was fabricated by Tony and our skilled team of EEA practitioners.

The Triumph of Art celebrates 200 years of the National Gallery sharing the power and fun of the arts to events in 4 locations across the country - Dundee, Llandudno, Derry and Plymouth. All of the elements developed for these events, and more, will be bought to Trafalgar Square in London on Saturday 26 July for a day of fun and surprises.

Quingo will make its debut at the London event and take part in a Bacchanalian procession starting on Whitehall (near King Charles St) at 11.00am. Quingo will arrive at Trafalgar Square at around 11.30am and perform with Heart n Soul DJs all day, with a final DJ set from Celtronic around 3.00pm.

The Triumph of Art is a free event which is open to everyone. There will be a weird and wonderful collection of live music, performances, workshops and a big birthday tea party.
